Hurricane Harvey had a huge impact on the greater Houston area and Judge Emmett was front and center during the crisis. The Think Factory is presented by LSC-CyFair's Philosophy Department.

Beers to You!

Another fun beer class at H-E-B Fairfield with David Nicholas of H-E-B and Chad Philbeam of Beer Logic. We learned about the evolving craft beer business, types of beer, and different tastes of beer. So, we had to taste a few to experience those differences. Phil provided a lot of information in addition to a good dose of humor.

The History of the Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers were formed in the 1820s to protect the frontier from Indians. Over the many years since, the Rangers have had their ups and downs and their mission has changed many times. Today, it is one of the most respected group of investigators in the country. Monte Parks of Precinct 4 gave a great presentation on their history coinciding with the history of Texas and the United States.

RAD Class

We graduated from RAD! Through the Harvey aftermath, the flu season, two semesters, and trying to schedule a Captain, a Sergeant and class space, we finally did it. What a great experience and we recommend this class to any and all ladies out there. Check with your local Sheriff or Constable's office for classes. Thank you to everyone, especially Capt. Joachim and Sgt. Vidito of Lone Star College's Police department, for making it a great series of classes.

Special Event - Jan Jarboe Russell - Author of The Train to Crystal City

Russell’s book The Train to Crystal City: FDR’s Secret Prisoner Exchange Program and America’s Only Family Internment Camp During World War II is critically acclaimed and is currently being used this semester in most of our HIST (U.S. Survey II) courses.

Russell’s research on this Texas internment camp is insightful and the story is engaging and a page turner,” said professor of history Robert O’Brien. “We experience the camp primarily through the eyes of two teenage girls, one of Japanese heritage and the other German. Far fewer German Americans were put in camps during World War II so Russell’s book provides valuable information on a facet of internment that has been rarely examined.”

Disc Golf - Last Class of Semester

A small but lively class enjoyed the morning at Zube Park learning the basics of Disc Golf. That's the last session for the Spring Semester, but Intro to Golf will return for the Fall Semester. Don't miss out on the fun and challenge.

Disc Golf Wants You!

The last disc golf class for the semester is scheduled for Thursday, April 12 at 10am at Zube Park.  Great chance to learn a fun sport that costs little to play and enjoy the outdoors.  The weather should be beautiful, so join us Thursday.  All equipment is provided; just wear comfortable walking shoes.

Plane, Car, Train, Bus and Ferry through Western Canada

Richard and Betty Gillespie traveled through Western Canada and shared their trip with us. We learned about their stops in Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. Next, they went west to the coast with stops in Vancouver and Victoria. Richard shared all the things they did and saw in this beautiful part of Canada.

Foodpalooza: Fairly Feeding Everyone

Kendra Pendry talked to us about how our world's population is growing and how we need to establish a food system that can feed everyone fairly. She shared the work that Heifer International is doing to help families meet their basic needs and how to pass the success along from generation to generation and from family to family.

Hero or Villain? Choosing Less Conflict

Professor Patrick Barton, CyFair Communication, has invited ALL to attend his presentation, Hero or Villain? Choosing Less Conflict.

In the movie that is our life, we often see ourselves as the hero and see those who present obstacles as villains. This workshop will seek to re-frame these narrative choices, providing ways to improve interpersonal communication, reduce conflict, and increase our chances of success at work, in our classrooms and at home.

Graphical Information Systems and Geospatial Technology

Michael Konvicka, CyFair GIS professor, share with us the ever changing world of Graphical Information Systems and geospatial technologies. It seems we are just now scratching the surface of all the ways geographic information can be used to map and analyze the world around us. From agriculture to utilities, from energy companies to local, state and federal governments, the information is now integral in everyday operations.
