The Fall Semester is in full swing and going well. Hopefully you are participating in classes and events. If you would like to get more involved, why not volunteer for one of the committees. This is a program where it truly "takes a village" to make the program work. Every member is invited and encouraged to come to the monthly advisory meetings that are normally held at 11:15 on the third Wednesday of the month in our regular classroom (HSC 106). Physicians from St. Luke's Hospital at The Vintage presented an informative program about Breast Cancer. First Dr. Betty Edwards talked about how important breast self exams are and how to recognize signs of health issues. Then Dr. Ata Ahmad told us about treatment options. Rose Huynh shared her recipe for Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls. Participants had fun as she showed us how to assemble and roll them using fresh vegetables, shrimp and pork. And, of course, Spring Rolls would not be complete without the Peanut Sauce....so we also learned how to make this as well. Click on the attachment to see her recipe.
I'm already signed up for this Alaska Cruise/Tour. Peggy Presnell has arranged a wonderful group trip through Princess for a 12-day combination cruise and tour of Alaska. Noemi Silva shared her family recipe for "Flat Enchiladas with New Mexico Red Chile Peppers". This is not the usual rolled enchiladas that we see in restaurants. This was quite a project, but well worth the trouble. Follow the recipe provided by Noemi and see how yours come out.
Professor Idolina Hernandez and her "helpers" showed us how to better navigate the computer and use programs such as Blogspot, Tumblr, Facebook, and Flickr. These are the programs that our kids and grandkids use all the time. If we want to communicate with them, we have to learn how to use theses programs as well. Librarian Melanie Wachsmann gave us a great computer lesson on Web Browsers and the Internet. There are several web browsers to choose from including Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Try them all and then settle on the you feel most comfortable with.
