Food Safety for Seniors

Janet Lane, ALL member and Registered Sanitarian, shares with us how we are susceptible to food-borne diseases as we age, especially if we have chronic conditions. We learned tips on how to shop, prepare and store food for maximum safety. We also learned what to look for when dining out.

Road Trippin' to Taos

Brett Hall, a local artist, took us on a journey to the Taos Pueblos inhabited by the Red Willow people. Brett shared his passion for art and the people of the Taos area. He showed us that it's not just the destination, but the journey. Stay off the interstate, enjoy the journey and stop along the way. There is always something new to discover.

Reader's Theatre Production - Freud's Last Session

Dean Matt Turner has invited ALL to the performances next week of Freud's Last Session by Mark St. Germain. The play centers on legendary psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud who invites the young, rising Oxford Don C.S. Lewis to his home in London. On the day England enters WW II, Freud and Lewis clash about love, sex, the existence of God, and the meaning of life. Freud's Last Session is a deeply touching play filled with humor and the exploring minds, hearts and souls of two brilliant men addressing the greatest questions of all time.

There will be two performances; Monday, Sept 19th and Tuesday, Sept 20th, from 3.30-5.30 pm in ART 102. Each performance will be followed by a discussion with the audience.

Hanging Birdfeeder

Linda Gabrielson held another fun class with the students making a Folk Art Hanging Birdfeeder. There was plenty of sanding and painting and creative ideas flowing for this fun class.

Settlers, Soldiers, Events and the San Jacinto Trail

What actually happened as Sam Houston led his troops back toward the fateful encounter at San Jacinto? Glenn Camp, an ALL member and Texas Army reenactor, shared the stories of the Mexican Army, the Runaway Scrape, the Twin Sisters, and others along the trail.

Funeral Negotiator - Knowledge is Power

Ken Lambert, the Funeral Negotiator, gave a very informative discussion regarding the sad, but inevitable, task of making funeral arrangements. There are many decisions to be made from many options available to you. Knowledge is power when it is time to make these decisions for yourself or a loved one.

Invitation to World War I Military Medicine Presentation

LSC-CyFair History professor Bobby O'Brien has invited our ALL members to a presentation on Thursday, September 15 at 2pm in CENT 152-153. The speaker, Dr. Marble, is an expert in Army medical history and will trace what the government did to preserve the health of recruits and heal the wounded and sick before the founding of the Veterans Administration.

Intro to ALL and CyFair Campus

Cheryl LeJune welcomed new and returning members alike to share all the interesting things to do on campus; our great ALL classes, theater, concerts, fitness center, library and many other activities and volunteer opportunities. Being a college student has its benefits. The class was led on a campus tour by our Student Ambassadors.

Center for the Arts Wants You!

Heidi Scanio has sent out a request for ALL members to participate in a campus-wide coloring contest! The rules are simple:

• Print out the attached coloring sheet.
• Embellish the design with a spectacular wash of color.
• Write your name on the back, along with whether you are staff, student or ALL member, and
• Submit to Heidi Scanio in TECH 123 by October 1st.

Winners will be chosen in the following categories:  Admin/Staff, Faculty, Student, and ALL, LIFE, or FOL member. One winner in each category will receive a homecoming-style mum to sport around campus during October and a season pass to all Fall Center for the Arts performances.  

So, get out your crayons or markers and have some fun. The coloring sheet can be downloaded here.

ALL Fall Semester Registration

If you missed our Open House on August 19th, just drop by the Continuing Education office in CASA 116 to register and pay for classes. While you are on campus, don't forget to pick up your parking sticker (need your license plate number) and get your Student ID card (if you don't have one yet) when you come by the office. Please note that college classes start Monday, August 29th, so plan accordingly with regard to parking.

ALL classes start on September 12th. We are looking forward to seeing you then.
