Benefits of Birds

Professor Tim Sebesta was with us again today talking about the Benefits of Birds. Tim, a bird enthusiast, always gives us great information about birds that fly through our area. In fact, he indicated that this weekend would be a great time to drive down to High Island, TX where thousands of birds "fall out" as they fly from South America to more northern states for the summer. Tim's favorite birds, Purple Martins, prefer to nest in gourds. Hummingbirds love the bottlebrush bush. For bird friendly plants, visit RCW Nursery or Buds & Blossoms....both in our local area. Funny movie about bird watching - The Big Year. Source for buying gourds is purplemartin.org   Review his presentation for more info.

Chicken & Dumplings

Love Comfort Food?  Nothing could be better than Chicken & Dumplings?  Anne McErlean showed us her favorite recipe.  This recipe can be adapted to suit your liking.....you choose to use either white meat or dark meat.  Don't like celery, don't add it.  But the secret is in the dumplings.....they must be rolled very thin.  Then drop the pastry strips one by one into the boiling chicken stock.  Complete recipe - click here.
