Beginner Crochet

Beginner Crochet is just that.....for beginners. So if you don't know how to crochet and want to learn, join Melanie Pratho as she teaches us how. After you graduate from this class we will have another class next semester to learn more about crochet (how to read patterns). Bring your size "H" or "I" crochet hook and a skein of or 4-ply worsted weight yarn (light color, but not white or variegated). During the first class Melanie showed us several websites that offer great info and videos.....see attached.

Amazing Folding Photo Album

What fun we had making the "Amazing Folding Photo Album". Mary Ellen Walsh taught us how to turn two squares of cardboard, wrapping paper, three sheets of copy paper and a piece of ribbon into a fantastic keepsake album that folds together to form a four inch album that will fit into your purse. Following are the written instructions and a diagram that will help you get started. If you have trouble putting it together, just ask a class member to show you how.

Speech & Change

Professor Patrick Barton gave us a great class on how effective speech can change our world.....at large or within our own communities. Secrets of the Library

Have you visited the great library at LSC-CyFair.....it is a fantastic library with lots of programs for the public. They offer the L.I.F.E. programs, several book clubs, computer classes, a children's library, a teen section and free access computers for public use. Claire Gunnels gave us a floor plan and showed the class how to access reference sources at the library both while inside the library and from your home computer. If you have any questions about the library, please feel free to ask Claire or one of the many other friendly librarians. Advisory Committee Minutes - August 2011

Even though we have 100+ degree weather, the Fall Semester will soon be here. Staff at LSC-CyFair is in the process of moving offices to the new buildings. The ALL Fall 2011 Registration is still on the calendar for Saturday, September 10th from 9:30-12:00. As before, it will be held in the Conference Center. Be sure to mark you calendar ! If you are not able to attend on Sept 10th, don't fret....you can drop by the campus registration area any time after that date. The Fall Class Schedule and other information is on the college website.

Advisory Committee Minutes - July 2011

Hope you said "goodbye" to our old Mod 2 classroom because it is being dismantled. In the Fall Semester our new classroom location will be HSC 106. This is the room "next to the kitchen" in the Health Science Building. The closest parking will be in the North Parking Lot near the short wrought iron fence surrounding the kid's playground. Enter the side door of the building and the room is just a couple of doors down. This is much closer to the parking lot than our old room....so let's say "thanks" to the administration for making our walk shorter.

We plan on having a "make-up" class for the Records Class that was cancelled on June 30th. Mark your calendar to meet in the Kitchen (HSC 105) from 1:30-3:30, Tuesday afternoon August 16th. We will use this class to learn how to turn old record albums into cute bowls and platters that we plan to use for our Fall Fling party.
