Virtual Reality: Your Body on Mars

Monica Hernandez Valencia, Biology professor, presented a very interesting class on space travel including how our body reacts and what scientists and engineers are doing to combat the physiological and psychological changes experienced by humans after a long stay in space. We learned about some VR apps to download to our smart phones, in conjunction with Google Cardboard VR viewers, and experienced moving around Mars.

Volunteers Needed!

ALL has been asked to participate in the following CyFair student event:

GED Graduation
The GED graduation for CyFair is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23rd at 6pm in the Main Stage Theatre. Volunteers are needed any time between 3.30 and 8pm. You do not need to stay the whole time. Volunteers will help students get ready with their caps and gowns and photographs. The get-ready rooms will be located in the TECH building. There is a reception after the ceremony in the ARTS lobby.

Texas Craft Beer Fest

Thank you H-E-B and David Nicholas, Beer and Wine Manager, for presenting another fun class at the Fairfield store. This time, we explored five different craft beers produced in Texas; several from the Houston area. The craft beer market is still strong with lots of choices depending on your taste.

Art Journal Series

Linda Gabrielson led us on a journey using different mixed media for our Art Journal series. It was a chance to experiment with different art forms and media. Lots of fun and self-exploration. You can see some of the work below:




A Tour of Norway

Mining and Vikings and other stories of Norway. Nathalie Brandes, Professor of Geosciences at Montgomery, led us on another tour, this time we learned about Norway with a swing through Sweden. The geology and landscapes are beautiful and the history is rich.

What could be more fun than cooking some great meals or treats with our grandkids? Bonnie Johnson and Lou and Sue Master shared their grandkids as well as some favorite recipes with us during this class. We are so lucky to be able to share time with family like this.

Rowing to America: The Immigrant Project

The LSC-CyFair Center for Civic Engagement will present scenes from Rowing to America. There will be three short plays followed by a moderated discussion forum on immigration that will be opened up to include audience members.

Knowledge and Perspective

Grady Watts, CyFair professor of philosophy, presented a thought-provoking idea from Bertrand Russell. Russell was a renowned mathematician, philosopher and Nobel Prize recipient. We discussed Russell's concept about how our knowledge is based on our perspective and everyone's perspective is different. Interesting class and interesting discussion.

Spring Recital - Woodwinds Galore!

Sheila Patterson, CyFair Music Director, shared some great information and music with us in the Recital Hall today. By explaining the woodwind instruments and having her students play individual parts of the music pieces, then the whole, we came away with a greater understanding of the music.

Kim Perry of Texas AgriLife presented a series of 3 classes geared to seniors maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We discussed food choices and physical activities to maintain our health for the long run. We were treated to delicious, easy-to-make recipes in class along with a little exercise.

The Press Agents' War: Propaganda & World War I

Professor Bobby O'Brien has cordially invited ALL to attend a guest lecture. David Greenberg, Rutgers University professor, will examine how the U.S. government rallied the American public to fight in World War I. This presentation is part of LSC's series commemorating the 100-year anniversary of World War I. The event is free and is sponsored by W.W. Norton and Windows on the World.
