By now, you should have received your Fall 2020 ALL catalog. if not, it can be viewed online here. Hopefully you will receive it soon.

Classes will begin in early September. Please register online, select your classes and pay the $25 membership fee. Detailed instructions are included in the catalog. Remember, there is no geographic limit, especially since all of our classes will be online. Please note many of the classes have overlapping times; pay attention when selecting classes as you will not be able to register for a class when there is a conflicting time.

Every ALL class will be presented online this fall using Webex, a video conferencing platform. The process to attend a class, as of today, is as follows:

1. A few days before your scheduled class, an email, with the Webex class link, will be sent to those registered in that class.

2. Please login a few minutes (5-10 minutes) early so you don't miss anything.

3. The classes will be live with the presenter talking to us and sharing their computer screen showing PowerPoint or video or whatever media they choose to teach with, or not.

4. Please be patient. We are at the beginning of our learning curve as we all venture into the online-only world.

5. We still are trying to figure out how to get the links to those that want to "drop in". Will follow up on that soon.

6. Contact Kimberly Moore-Crenshaw at KMoore-Crenshaw@lonestar.edu for general class questions. If you have questions or need help logging into your student account while trying to register please call OTS,  832.813.6600.

How Did We Get Here? Part 2

In Prof. Esther Robinson's "History Behind the Development of the Political Parties in the United States - Part 2", Esther picked up the story of the parties after the Civil War. She combined the historical events of the United States with how the political parties changed throughout the last 150 years. We viewed each election from 1880 and watched the demographics change every 4 years. Very interesting.

You can view Esther's presentation here.

Human Trafficking 101

United Against Human Trafficking is an organization based in Houston. Sarah Koransky from UAHT discussed what is human trafficking, the various forms it takes and how it affects men, women and children. Based on some real-world examples, we learned that we could not tell the trafficker from the victim just by looking. Sarah also made us aware of red flags to look for.

"We believe that no human life should be for sale. Children and teenagers, men and women are exploited for sex and labor in our city every day. We exist to change that."
