20th Century Art: Abstraction and Modernism

Artists moved from realism to abstraction in the last part of the 19th century in Europe and America. Prof. Matthew Backer, LSC-CyFair, led us on a discussion about the change to Modernism. He presented explanations of the different forms and meanings associated with the various schools of abstraction.

290 Program Construction Update

We received the latest update on the 290 expansion project from Mike Zientek of the 290 Project Team. There was plenty of time for questions and answers and we identified problem areas for us as community members to Mike. The meeting was like a good town hall discussion.

Fake News, Alternative Facts and the Future of Newspapers

Jimmy James, former editor for the Houston Chronicle, shared his newspaper experience and thoughts on the current topic of fake news. He presented how alternative facts have been around for the ages which led to a lively discussion of the role of news and news sources in today's world.

ALL Membership Information

Now that you joined ALL, Cheryl LeJune and Richard Gillespie, ALL members, helped get members online and logged in. By meeting in a computer classroom, members were led through the process of getting their UserNames, deciding on a Password (after a long series of security questions), and learning their LSC email address (.edu). Now, members can log their laptops, smart phones and/or tablets on to the LSC WiFi (works on all campuses), their student email, and maybe even register online.

Introduction to ALL

Welcome ALL members, new and returning, as we kick off the Fall 2017 semester with an introduction to the ALL program and the LSC-CyFair campus.  There is so much to do and see with ALL, the college and the public library.  Attendees were also given a walking tour by Cheryl LeJune of the campus to see the ARTS building, workout room, cafeteria, library, etc.

Joy of Bird Feeding Part 1

Richard Edie, Wild Birds Unlimited, presented another great class about birding. We learned the five steps of bird feeding. He provided a lot of information to increase our knowledge and enjoyment of feeding our backyard friends.

ALL Fall 2017 Registration Open

For the 2017-2018 Membership year, you may join ALL and sign up for most classes before our Open House on August 18th. You can do so by:

1.  Joining online by following the online instructions on pages 2-4 of the schedule.
2.  Come to CE office. Please note that campus is closed on Fridays through August 11th.

The following classes are NOT available for signup before the Open House:
1.  All Arts & Craft classes which include supply fees; 16014, 16306, 16506, 16829, 16834, 16839, 16914, 16915, 16039, and 16826.
2.  HEB Bubbles, Bubbles class, 16956.
3.  ALL's Readers Theater, 16953.
4.  AARP Driver Safety, 16505.
5.  RAD Self-Defense Training, 16954.

Please join us at the Open House where you can meet and visit with our ALL members. You can drop off your completed registration forms with payment, as usual, signup for the above classes, sign up for our Fall bus trips, and meet our college President and ALL instructors.

If you have difficulty trying to register online and/or cannot make it to the Open House, please feel free to drop by the Continuing Education office in CASA 116 where you will be assisted.

We are busy working on our Fall bus trips
